  1. Does this make any sense to anyone? This is a quote from a page somone handed me to figure out.

"Playback systems for Hi-Def: Supply content as MPEG-2 encoded files each with a transport stream consisting of both video and audio, as follows:

    l. Elementary video stream: encode directly from HD media (such as HDCAM or D5) or an NLE connected to the encoding hardware via a direct HD SDI (SMPTE 292M) connection; we strongly recommend that any purpose-shot video be acquired at 1080i at 29.97fps; 1920 x 1080 at 29.97fps interlaced encoded as Main Profile at High Level with a 4:2:0 chroma format at a constant bit rate of 40Mbps; the stream must start on an I fram and end on a packet boundary; use I, B, and P frames; GOP Structure must be CLOSED and set to 15 frames per GOP; each GOP must contain a sequence header.

ll. Elementary audio tream: prior to encodeing, the source audio must be 5.1 channel surround (i.e.: six tracks) 16 bit at a minimum sampling rate of 48KHz. encode as 5.1 surround in the Dolby Digital AC3 format with a constant bit rate of 384Kbps.

lll. Multiplexing: create a single transport stream from the two elementary video and audio streams."

Basically, can I do this with any sort of software encoder? to these specs? DVDSP and Compressor only seem to have VBR settings for HD and only go up to about 29Mbps. ANY help would be great. Thanks.

I believe Canopus Procoder (the $500 pro version)will give you most of those required features. PixelTools Expert HD allows you almost total control of those encoding parameters, but it isn't cheap. http://www.pixeltools.com/experthd.html Still, if you guys have the budget, ExpertHD will ensure your encodes are compliant to your client's requirements.

Also, you'll probably want a copy of Womble MPEG2VCR to multiplex your audio and video into MPEG2 transport stream format. Any Womble product will do this, BTW.

Don't know enough about the Mac products to help you in that regard....
