I keep having problems with skippy sections every few seconds on my backups. I have used Any DVD in conjunction with shrink, decrypter and nero but I can't seem to stop the probs. I only burn main movie so there is next to no compression.I am farely new to backing up my DVDs having a 3 year old has made it a neccesity.

I use emtec dvds but i have also used Pack/Bells and PC lites in my lite-on and sony DL

    its a bugger

    CAN ANY BODY HELP?

If she doesn't already know teach her how to responsibly handle DVD media. In this way you can avoid wasting discs on making backups and use them for more constructive purposes.

    XMRTY,
I hate to make coasters therefore I always test burn to a RW dvd first, check the quality of the playback. Then I burn to a +/- R DVD.
Also I always burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media.
Haven't made a coaster for at least a year.

The first part of your theory doesnt hold much water. RW media is going to be reacted to differently by standalone players than a -R disc or +R disc. and quality of media itself will be vastly different also.

testing a custom made menu & dvd from scratch or something on RW is a good idea though to test if authored correctly.

Actually the entire theory is bunk. Coasters are made under any varying conditions. The conditions for which you burn an rw disc may change in the 30 seconds it took you to remove the rw disc and place a -/+r in the drive. There is human error, power surges, unexplained software background applications, windows doing it's famous things, and other factors too numerous to name which makes performing a test burn a complete waste of time. Of course another complete waste of time is burning disc under their rated speed. Do as you wish and what works for you but the theory that by testing and burning mega slowly you will never get coasters is very misleading and time consuming.

bells ain't bad media. The others might not be that good though. I just can't see why you'd waste time doing a test burn when the conditions of the burn might and probably will change especially considering you are switching write strategies going from RW to R media. The burning slower also isn't going to make any difference unless your machine is a POS and can't keep up.

Went ahead and fixed that bold problem for the original poster. Don't know HOW that happened.
