From .dat to mpeg problems :( Newbie

Hi - my problems this.. I have a Vcd movie (copy) and i want to reproduce it and as far as I can tell, nero will only burn a vcd if it is in mpeg format first. So, after scouring this website i downloaded vcdgear as this seems to be the best .dat to mpeg converter out there right? Well, once the .dat file had been converted to mpeg windows media player wont play it! I get the following error : "no combination of filters could be found to render the stream" I'm at a total loss, i tried to fix the mpeg with mpeg corrector but with the same problem??? could someone please help me. thank you kindly. By the way - my reason for wanting to re-copy the vcd is that it wont play on my DVD (LG 4210) unlike other vcd's i have, can you explain that one to me too? thanks...

Make an image of the offending VCD... (Clone CD/CDRWIN - etc. etc.) - Use VCD Gear to rip from the Cue/Bin to Mpeg.... Sorted

What does making an image entail and do i need the clone CD software? Forgive my ignorance tnx.

...I have gotten hold of cdrwin - if anybody could explain to me how to make an image of the vcd using this software i'd be grateful.
