Well it can capture from a dv camera.

But I don't see how to capture from an over-the-air channel from a hdtv capture card. It has the option for tv tuner or svideo/composite. So I select the tv tuner. (I have a fusion 3 hdtv gold capture card). It has options for tv, fm, atsc. I choose tv and can get ANALOG signals that are fuzzy. But I choose atsc and it doesn't get the hdtv channel.

Can you only record the hdtv in a .tp (.ts) file in the program that came with the capture card? Can you record hdtv to a different format but preserve the widescreen??

Do you mean a HDV camcorder? Or something higher?

  6. I have firewire on a PC and a Laptop, but movie maker does not show that it can capture from miniDv for either of them.
On the PC that has ATI All-in-Wonder, movie maker can captures only 320x240. That's not excatly hi-def.

The HC1 can do normal downscaled SD DV transfers. Read the manual. It will then look like a normal SD MiniDV camcorder to applications.

For HD, you would need to transfer the file to the HDD using the software that came with the HC1 and then decompress. Then import.

Is your goal WMV-HD? Better to use the Windows Media Encoder but that won't take native HDV either.

What are you trying to do?

PS: most consumer level editing programs added HDV capablitiy in their latest releases. Prosumer programs are in their second generation. The free solutions are lacking or require multiple tools.
