I'm using WinDV to capture a satellite TV source through a cannopus ADVC - 100 and using the command line .bat file to exit WinDV to stop capturing after a certain amount of time.
Unfourtunatly, when doing this, i cannot see if there have been any dropped frames.
Dropped frames are a frequent occurance for me, and i would like to know if there is a way to identify where the dropped frames exist in the captured file (without have to watch the whole thing through).
thanks.

You shouldn't be dropping frames, not with your specs. Capturing DV is pretty easy even on the cheapest computers these days. Most likely you have something acessing the drive while your capturing or a very fragmented drive.

well, the dropped frames are no longer an issue because i'm capturing from my laptop, and i guess i'm sort of just expecting them
Any thought on how to detect them??? -
Though I've never tried it for this, you might load the video into VirtualDub Mod and check for errors. I don't know if it will show lost frames, though. (You do need a DV codec installed for VDM to work with DV)

I've wondered about this too, especially for unattended recording. The capture program doesn't have a log or some kind of report, that can be reviewed later, after a capture showing the number of frames captured and dropped. Some capture programs show the number of frames captured and dropped only while the capture is on-going. When recording is done, there's no way for me to know from an unattended recording how many frames, if any, were dropped except to look at how bad the video is and surmise that it must have lost some frames. Would the other programs (ex. VirtualDub) other than the capture program know how many frames were dropped during capture? The edit program would only know number of frames handed to it and not what a particular video or movie should have had. Without a log or report, how would I know that an unattended recording didn't drop frames during the recording?
