  1. I just got the new Creative Zen Portable Media Player and its great. It can playback DVD res. videos at high bitrates.

The only problem is that my XviD back-ups on my HTPC are AC3.

Rather that rip and reencode the DVD, what's a good tool to reencode the Xvid audio and leave the video as-is.
For the love of God, use hub/core labels on your Recordable Discs!

Drop them into VirtualDub Mod. If you have the AC3 ACM Decompressor, you should be able to convert the audio to MP3. I like Lame MP3 as it has more options than the default MP3 codec with most any settings available. Select Full processing for audio and Direct stream copy for the video. Save it to a new filename and you are done. This will leave the video as is and just convert the audio.

    mencoder.exe -ovc copy -oac mp3lame input.divx -o output.avi
That is assuming that avi as a container is ok. I wouldn't have thought that the creative would handle the divx media format anyway.

Run -lameopts help for a list of lame options.

The benifit of mencoder over VDub is that you can easily batch process files.
