  1. I just lost a day with constant blue death screens. 7 formats to put it right LOL.

Morph x works fine for me thank you bilogod.

Whats this lawsuit on morph ?
Is it the same crack as napster copped for coz it killed napster.

And yes I fear they will all go too.

Another good download program is Direct Connect.
(just in case morph does go down)
    Download it here http://www.neo-modus.com/

And for audio only try http://www.audiogalaxy.com/ and download the satellite.

You'll probably allready have these but one never knows it might help someone.

    Enjoy.

I didn't realize how right I was on this...

Not only are they by the same people... but try this one...

Load up Grokster. If you have Morpheus installed, go and click your shortcut to Morpheus while Grokster is running. Does Morpheus load? Well... sort of. It toggles Grokster! (They're literally the same &^$%& program). What's the point of having 3 different programs on teh same network... BY THE SAME PEOPLE?!?!?

I'm going to give that NeoModus thing a try.

    NeoModus sucks awful bad.

I like the concept, but searching is slow, connections to other users don't happen, and the program tends to run away from you (if you try to connect to a server that doesn't like you, it opens up a dozen others until someone lets you in).

For now, it looks like Grokster/Morpheus/Kazaa is THE program, and then whatever comes after it.

  5. I had a go on neo-modus's Direct Connect the other day.

Man that thing it complicated to get right.
I started a download off and it came back to me that I was downloading his whole harddrive.
    All 20 gig of it.

I'll stick to Morph for now.

I read an article other day...

IF Morpheous goes DOWN. The net stay ups with the software they already released.. There really is no central server like there was with NAPster..

    I love the internet.

  7. Its true that it acts in a decentralised manner, but I think that they are a vital part in the connection between the peer to peer network. If they go down then I'm afraid its one for all and all for one. Others types of less reliable file sharers (Gnutella??) use a peer to peer network that simply keeps the originators software program alive, providing that people still keep connecting to one another. Theoretically if everyone were to switch off at once then the program would no longer exist. I'm afraid Morpheus looks set to go down the pan just like Napster and Scour did. At the end of the day they can be shut down by prosecutors proving that they are "helping to facilitate copyright theft" Lawyers are a clever bunch, I don't think a couple of computer geeks will stand a chance. There will doubtless be endless replacements (there must be over 1000 different file sharing programs out there now) it just remains to be seen as to which survivors are the fittest.

I tried to send a message to a few people with the exclamation point said they were not online. I've noticed though that every download I try when I'm on XP, I get that failed message.... How did I fail? I didn't fail.....

    Apache

I have noticed that a LOT lately too... used to be any one file was offered by a dozen people or more... now I almost never see more than 3 holders of a single file, and usually 2 are !-marked...

    CONSPIRACY!

(Oh, BTW... ignore the "Failed" message in Grokster... I noticed it always says this, but go ahead and open the file you downloaded... it's most always fine)

Right, with MorpheusX running, make sure you move the finished download. If you don't you get a "failed" but the download is just fine.

MorpheusX looks for more sources even if the movie is downloaded. If you were to click "clear download and Erroneous" you will delete your completed movie.

  12. Good tip... I had the feeling people were going to ask this question

  13. I'm getting the failed thing upon completion with morph x running as well but now I have also lost the ability to see the details of the files when you 'hover' over the top of them.

I see no popup details at all.
This makes it pretty much impossible to decide on which version you want to download and you have to take pot luck.....

    Any ideas.

I have removed and reinstalled morph and no difference.

  14. Thats really weird, I've never had that happen... Apparently its best to get your downloads running first before activating Morpheus x, it has been known to cause some sorts of problems otherwise..

  15. Maybe m8 but this is without morph x running.

No popup descriptions at all any more.

I'm wondering if its a registry problem but everytime I have messed with registry before I have ended up formatting LOL.

  16. greetings folks,

i feel the need to let you all know that i have never used morpheus/grogster or any other peer to peer clients that are popular today. about the last peer to peer client i used was audio gnome for a little while after metallica booted me from napster (yes in the very first ban) so it has been a while since i did any peer to peer outside of IRC.

i just wanted to offer some advice on another way to download stuff that you guys might appreciate. i download alot of stuff from usenet newsgroups. the usenet system is a very old part of the internet and has a very solid server based architecture. basically your ISP is providing you a server that you can use to exchange information and attachments in a format very similar to e-mail but the inbox you send to is available to everybody in the world. so in turn you can also use this server to download anything that someone else has sent. for example lets suppose someone sent an e-mail to this global inbox and included an attachment of tcf-ali1.r00, then you would be able to download tcf-ali1.r00 from their message. now if this person were to send a series of messages and each time included another part (tcf-ali1.r01, tcf-ali1.r02 and so on) then you could easily download all those attachments.

now i admit i make it sound easy and in reality it is not so simple. short retention times can make it impossible for dial up users to get things downloaded fast enough, poor completion rates can plauge any user fast or slow, and if your ISP will not carry the messages the attachments you want then it is useless. however in many cases ISP's offer great service (if you are reading this on an optonline connection you MUST follow this advice) and you can beneft from this.

even if your ISP offers poor service you can remedy this by subscribing to a premium news service for a monthly or yearly fee. if you have more time than money there are even free news servers you can use but it will require some looking around to get everything you want in most cases with free news servers. the cost of a premium service varies just as the service itself does. at the end of this post i will offer some links where you can find information about a variety of premium and free news servers.

i am not trying to belittle peer to peer software at all. i figure whatever works for you is whats good. i am writing this because i see some issues regarding peer to peer applications that will not arise out of newsgroup downloading. i just wanted to offer some information/opinions that you might be able to use help you find downloads.

the first and foremost issue is that of what you contribute in order to get back. peer to peer networks rely on the sharing of others and for that reason leeching is discouraged. newsgroups have a loyal following of contributors that grows every day as people develop an understanding of how to contribute in a safe and helpfull way so leeching is encouraged. the reason i see this as important is basically because nobody has ever gotten introuble for downloading, it is what you are uploading that is a concern.

another issue to be aware of is speed. if you are fortunate enough to have decent news service from your ISP it generally means your download speeds will max out your connection. premium news servers can max out any dial up connection and most dsl service.

yet another issue i want to point out is that there are often rumors/fact circulating regarding trojans/backdoors/spyware built into these peer to peer programs and the networks they use to function are often privatley owned. usenet newsgroups function off a network of servers that are owned by millions of individuals making it impossible for one source to be targeted in order to close down the whole network. as far as malicious code in newsgroup reading clients goes, i would like to point out that there are litterally thousands of different programs you can use to interact with usenet newsgroups. you can even use your e-mail client but i wouldnt reccommend it.

well i have droned on quite a bit here. now since i seem to be developing a habit of not finishing discussions i will not promis any follow up posts explaining in furthur detail, instead i will offer you some links to sites i think will help you understand and get started.

    http://www.slyck.com/
this site has some helpfull starter guides. i have not checked out the site thouroughly but on the surface it seems very complete and helpfull. click on the newsgroups guide on the left.

    http://www.smr-usenet.com/
this site is run by a group that prominantly supports usenet. rather than create a self promotional site you will find some very helpfull information including news server comparisons and downloadable tutorials on setting up a client to download with.

    http://binnewz.net/
this site does have admins that run it but it is a community more than a website. people gather here to share information about what they have found in various newsgroups. be sure to visit the forum for usenet related discussions and the tutorial for a few more program guides.

before you ask i use newsbin pro for downloading attachments and forte agent for following text discussions.
    peace out,
    dumwaldo

AWW MA! you know i'm not like other guys. i get nervous and my socks are to loose.

  17. even if morpheus/kazaa go down... we will always have IRC and FTP!!

one tip though for you quality nuts out there...
if your sick of all songs being 128 bitrate or below on morpheus/kazaa, you can do a registry edit to alow higher bitrates. Open regedit and search the registry for "limitbitrate"... edit that entries value from a 1 to a 0 and it will them let you search for higher bitrate songs.
