i just installed morpheus on a new machine, and now sometimes when i do a search, the files will come up with some having what looks like a white exclamation mark next to them and the other files having the regular morpheus icon beside them. now, everytime i try to download one of the files that has what appears to be a white exclamation mark, the download "fails". this never happened before on my other pc. any ideas on what this is? some security setting? -thanks

what version of Morpheus are you using??, is this also happening on any search
-
i have the the most current (i think) version of morpheus: 1.3.3 yes, this happens with all searches
-
Maybe the exclamation marks represent copyright material! (sorry
)Try reinstalling, I,ve got the same version and I'm not getting it on mine. Are u able to take a screenshot and post it??
-
this is from a second install. i am on winXP home. just a few days ago this wasnt happening with win98....
-
Weird!! I have seen this once before, but I don't know what is causing it. Maybe you could e-mail that screenshot to the Morpheus team and ask them why. Maybe someone else reading this can confirm as to whether they have had similar probs with XP.
-
i dont know why i think this, but it could be that morpheus is showing the people who arent sharing files, and indicating it with that mark. i have seen people in their descriptions asking people to please share, and if you didnt, anything you tried downloading from them would be cut off. i wondered how they new who was sharing/not sharing, maybe this is how.

This happens to me very occasionally, only when my internet connection is extremely bogged, i get dud results on morpheus, doing a research wont do you any good, a restart usually does the job for me. -
I'm running win 98se and I get this all the time.
Really annoying especially if it's the only full version there.
I am sharing my files so I know it's not because of non-file sharing on my part. -
Switch to Grokster, if you want to see if people have files to share, you select the user and click "Find more from > Same user" if the results are none, then you know they are not sharing (Then cancel the download)
P.S, why are there 56K users trying to download movies ?
Please give it up...
-
Morpheus is the same with the find more from same user thing.
select line with use on it right click and find more from same...etc.
And I dont know what's wrong with these people with 56k coz itll take 2 weeks to d/load a movie.....
I'm with you on that one....Give it up. -
I have had that happen to me before too. It seems that it happens whne only a few people are sharing it and then they leave. I can resume it and it says more samples, but it will start downloading after a while. By the way, I'm on 56k and I didnt start downloading movies till last week when i got a strange boost in speed. For a week or so I have been getting steady speeds of 15-22 kb/s on Kazaa. I have goten about ten full length movies and they all work fine.
-
What I hate is finding movies from people with 56K
So if you must try to download at 56K, please don't share your movies, We don't want them !!!
Mind you... If there was 100,000 56K users with the same movie, then that might get close to a good download speed
-
My sentiments exactly.....
I once had a movie downloading for 3 weeks and it never got finished because the person I was getting it off was the only one with it and he was on 56k.
Don't forget that just because you may be able to d/load at maybe 5 or 6 kb/s or whatever you are getting at the time people can only upload off you at something like 10% of your total speed.
The only reason that I stuck with it was because it was the only one that was in .mpg instead of .avi.
Please stick to small setup .exe files because 200/300 meg plus is too much for your connection to handle.
I'm not trying to put you down for having 56k but I strongly recommend getting Broadband if it is available in your area. -
Sory I forgot to mention that Grokster Kazaa and Morpheus are the same program by different companies and all work exactly the same.
(I just got grok and tries it)

...well, for me, I have NO CHOICE!! I have to stick w/ 56k because my area
as I'm told will most likely NOT get DSL (Cable is in the air) in my area because
there isn't much interest from people and/or the area is just not populated
enough for people interested and/or a dozen line issues - so I'm told by the
Verizon team via several covert telephone conversations w/ various Ver. staff
membres.
So, I pretty much have no chance in hell in getting DSL or Cable.
I'm stuck w/ 56k. So, I make the best of it and continue on my way - not
move on. . .
And, yes, I too will sometimes get greater than ave. 10k throughput. But,
for the most partk its between 4k and 6k. I don't D/L whole movies or sizes
greater than say, 50MB, though I haven't gotton anything past 25MB so far.
I'm still experimenting / tinkering / debuging around w/ Morpheus.
Today, I will try and D/L some larger than 1MB files. i'm in the middle of
doing an encoding (VCD) of last nights LAST airing of DirecTV FreeView's
of U2 live in concert. I'm making it into VCD just for a friend at work. She
will be able to play on her PC 21" screen, as we don't have/allow for MPEG-2
files on our NT systems.
In spite of all the hangups I've had w/ Morpheus, I'm getting use to it. Still,
I'm prety mad w/ it because use really CAN'T share files w/ your friends.
ie, I've posted several files (and more to come) - :
vhelp-07a-123001-15-5th-element-diva fight scene-stndrd-vcd-betterthanvhsqlty.mpg
vhelp-10a-123001-14-5th-element-stndrd-vcd-betterthanvhsqlty.mpg
But, to date NOONE has ben d/l'ing them. I stat all my files with "vhelp-" to
make it easier to search for. I keep Morpheus open all the time.
I don't want to go the P2P direct route - Morpheus is P2P enough w/ a few
wistles atached.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to contribute further until now. To all those trying to disuade us 56k users from making big downloads
Sorry guys but when you've got the Morpheus x enhancement you don't much care. 2-3 days for 400 - 600Mb movies not 2 -3 weeks. With its auto refresh function they'll be plenty of times when I've had faster speeds than the broadband bigboys simply because they are sleeping and Morpheus X doesn't sleep.
Most of the U.K. don't have broadband (approx 2%) its costs are prohibitively high and its availablity is sweet F.A.
-
Hi
I don't mine a hundred people with 56K downloading from me, but when I search I would rather not download at that speed, so if you do use 56k perhaps you should consider placing a lot of small files to share, that way people can see you are sharing.
As for broadband (UK) I guess there are city's that are lucky to have NTL etc... But have you investigated other means ? there are satellite boxes for internet connection. You dial up into a service provider, and all your outgoing requests go via the telephone, but all your incoming are from a satellite.
By the way, broadband was available here for almost a year, before I had it. simply because nobody asked for it!!. When I typed my post code into the box it said "Not available" but it was. A quick visit to the local exchange and they said I could have it, that was a year ago, but the system still says its "not available" in my location.
One other thing...
You can dial into the free NTL service with a dial box, if you use around £15 per month on normal calls (Via BT) then you can use the NTL box. All calls will be routed via the box, so your normal bills will be 1P,2P,3P per minuet.
If you use that box for your normal phone calls, then you get 24 hours Internet FREE !!!. You still pay BT the rental charge as normal, but your phone calls bill will be with NTL.
Week day up until 6:00PM 3P per minuet (Anywhere in the UK)
After 6:00PM 2P per minuet (Anywhere in the UK)
Week-end 1P per minuet (Anywhere in the UK)
And as a bonus, you can 24 hours a day FREE internet, this is only available to non cabled locations. If they are about to put a cable in then you cannot get it. When you get cable its very cheap £14.99 for a 96K permanent connection and phone line (Including LAN modem rental), or broadband at £19.99 + £9.99 for phone line.
There is nobody out there that even comes close to this, BT are double that price for broadband, and its via the old wires, so lots of crackles and pops....
So if you must use 56K, use something better than Freeserve or BT, all of which are charging for Internet access unlike NTL.
-
I also don't mind 56k users downloading off me.
That wasn't the issue.
The point was that when you download off a 56k user then your download speed is only about 10% of their total available bandwidth which probably will never get above 0.5kb/s if they are sat there idle and not downloading anything themselves but more often than not they are downloading and so their available bandwidth is reduced and so is what they can offer to other users.
So many times have I had a download speed of 0.025 kb/s that tells me it's going to take 2500 mins for a 10 meg file when a healthy broadband connection will give me 60 or 70 kb/s and download it in about 2 mins.
I do sympathise with those in an area where broadband is not available but as letmeinforgodsake says it also said not available in my area but I asked NTL and I had it installed the next week.
And again if not then there are other alternatives.
Even if it means ISDN. -
I'll look into that stuff about NTL. I did however research the market thoroughly before (no mean feat I can tell you - and I come from an insurance background!!)NTL were goegraphically unavailable to me last time that I checked with Telewest being the necessary provider. As for satellite connection, this is brilliant if you can afford the exhorbitant outlay to start with.
I have this sneaky feeling though that we will see broadband DIY start up kits enabling people on mass to have the service at £30 or less in the next 12 months. Heres to hoping
On a final point if everyone reads this complete thread, you'll see that a mixed message is being sent out. On the one hand some of you are saying that 56K users should keep their folders clear and on the other your saying they should fill them with files.
There is only one answer to this!!! Everyone fill there folders, more choice = more availabilty = more sources to download from. That can only suit the interests of BOTH broad band and 56k. If you are a broadbander and you have multiple sources it shouldn't matter if some of them are 56K. Providing you keep refreshing your sources (get Morpheus X) you should get top speeds all the timeWell thats my ten cents...

I am very curious as to exactly what this Morpheus x is.....
I am on vers 133 and can find no reference to 'Morpheus x'
If it is a plug in then does anybody know where I can d/load it from ?
*scuttles off searching feverently* -

This is good news... Lets be having feedback off of everyone who has tried this download....
-
letmeinforgodsake, did you know grokster has a trojan horse in the installation exe. some company who has their ads within grokster put some trojan horse within grokster's installation. i think grokster has fixxed this but you may want to go to their site and check it out.

he he your downloads will never be the same again!! This was the best christmas present I got this year
I was wondering what will happen if Morpheus topples under the recent lawsuit slapped on it. Will Grokster/Kazaa go down the pan with it??
-
STARTLING REVELATION:
Grokster IS Morpheus!
Anyone run the two programs back to back? Same interface, same NETWORK, same options... does anyone know what the difference is supposed to be?
I've noticed one one behaivioral difference so far, and no improvements over Morpheus. Maybe it has better error-checking or something, but it's hard to tell. -
Btw - They are the same program, they are made by the same people. Hence I was wondering if when one goes they will all go.
