Pioneer Dv-383-s Dvd Player Regional Settings Problem

I have a Pioneer DV-383-S DVD player. When I switch on the player the player goes to a Regional Settings Screen where it prompts me to select a region code from 1-6.

(Player’s Region Settings)
<1> : Region
<2> : Region
<3> : Region
<4> : Region
<5> : Region
<6> : Region
Pick Out One Of These!


But I am unable to select any region using the remote control or the buttons on the player. It does not proceed beyond that screen. I am unable to go to any menu. I have tried resetting the player by pressing the STOP button and then the STANDBY button to switch it on, changing from NTSC>PAL>AUTO by pressing the FORWARD button and the STANDBY button. Nothing is working.

Anyone else using this player and facing a similar issue..????
