  1. Happy New Year Everyone!

Im kinda new to the whole converting scene so I would really appreciate it if you guys could critique what I did and answer any questions I have...

    Goal:
To convert divx avi to vcd mpg format to play on a standalone dvd player... planning to test it on my friend's xbox

    What I did:
A.) Downloaded TMPGEnc and followed the guide at the website:
    1. Browse to open the Video source(if you have trouble opening a video file read the problem at the bottom of this page).

    2. Hit the button Load at the bottom right and open the correct Template that you find in the TMPGEnc folder under Templates, open
VideoCD(PAL) if the original source in 25 fps or
VideoCD(NTSC) if the source in 29,97/30fps or
VideoCD(NTSCFilm) if the source is 23,97fps.

To check what the FPS (frames per second) is open the the AVI/DiVX with Windows Media Encoder and select View->Statistics. If the video is some strange fps as 20fps / 60fps or something try with either PAL or NTSCFilm and see what looks best.

    3. Select Settings. (see below)--
    Settings
Under Video you can select quality, Use High Quality. (if it is DivX, ASF to MPG you can use Low or Normal Quality).

    Under Advanced select these settings.
Select Source Aspect Ratio select 1:1 (VGA).
and under Video Arange Method Full screen(keep aspect ratio

    4. Before You Hit Start, it is wise to use the File->Preview to see how the video with look like and it's also good to make a short sample before you encode the entire movie. You can encode some seconds and Stop and view the output.

    Assumptions and Questions:
The only thing different I did was to choose High quality under the Video setting I guess thats why I ended up with a 1 gig mpg file. I do know that I will lose quality no matter what, but when I started that 1 gig vcd mpg it looked fine in windows media player but when I blew it up it didnt look so good. Thats because of the number of lines
in the vcd format is less than divx and Im blowing it up so of course it wont look too sharp correct? Given that I used the High Quality setting and I would like to fit less say Naughty Nurses 999 on 1 CDR would changing the Video setting from High to Low or normal fix that? Also is the quality of a 1 vcd from a divx acceptable quality (this I mean I wont have to squint or anything to see stuff)? Right now my priorities are to convert that 700 or so divx avi to 1 vcd at a watchable quality ( I know it sure as hell wont be near dvd quality but will be like cable tv) What other filters and or options in TMPGEnc do I need to play around with to improve the quality? (please be specific) I know as a result this will make the vcd bigger so what programs(and where I can get them) can I use to view the vcd like the frame at which I can split it so I can fit it on 2 cdrs. About svcd I know that is sharper but it looks kinda wierd playing on windows media player due to the wierd number of lines but I suppose it would just fine playing on a standalone dvd player? Right now I would like to use the vcd format to accomplish my goal. I know I've written a lot and its a bundle to go over but I would greatly appreciate it

    Thanks

Well, I know that sie has a _LOT_ to do with the bitrate that you set. The bigger the bitrate, the better the picture, and the bigger the file.

Try looking under the HOW TO section on your left for some great guides to converting DIVX to (S)VCD's.

Naughty Nurses 999?? Hmm, only knew of NN1 and 2 myself...
