mpep to dvd

I have a movie that I would like to burn to a DVD but I'm not able to I've used Nero and I've tried DVD Shrink 3.2 it burns to a DVD but it will not play on my DVD player. Can anyone help me with some suggestions of what I'm doing wrong.

What type of file do you start with?
Drop it in GSpot (latest beta - 2.52) and post a screen shot.

AVI has to be reencoded to DVD specs MPG before it can be authored and finally burned as Video DVD.
For a beginner, divxtodvd is a good start, that takes care of the whole process with a minimum of clicks and settings.

divxtodvd is intended for AVI to DVD conversion, but mpg as source works too.

You should start with what you have. So, what you have? Avi or mpeg or something else?
The matter is that different sources require different workouts.
BTW, what means "mpep" in the topic title?

I stretched my imagination to find that mpep is in fact mpeg
May be wrong tho!
