  1. I'm probably making heavy weather of this, but I'd appreciate a little elementary help from an experienced user please. I'm making my first DVD with NeroVision Express 3 (NVX3), using the Video_VTS folder created in another program, MemoriesOnTV 2. That program produced a 'main menu' and 20 individual titles. So the Video_VTS folder I'm adding to NVX3 contains 21 sets of files.

I want the finished DVD to come up with two 'menu icons'. One called 'Play All' or whatever, and the other called 'Chapters'. When I click the latter, I want to see a series of 4 icons per screen, labeled 'Chapter 1', 'Chapter 2', ... 'Chapter 20'. (That's not possible if I burn direct from MemoriesOnTV.)

How do I set about that please? So far the 2 main stumbling blocks I've hit are:
    1) If I place 2 icons on the first page, all other 'chapter' pages also get 2 icons, instead of the 4 I want

    2) The 2 icons I get by default appear to be Play All and Chapter 1, instead of the '2-level hierarchy' that is supposed to be possible.

I'm beginning to wonder if I have some cut-down version of NVX3 (which came as part of the package accompanying my DVD drive). How can I determine that for sure please? And, if so, is there any documentation on it?

Unfortunately, I think you'll find experienced NVE users scarce. Try a more full fledged authoring app like TMPGEnc DVD Author.

  3. Well, I do have that as it happens. Just registered, so am equally inexperienced with it But first impression is that NVE looks more versatile to me! What facilities does TDA have that NVE doesn't?

Versatile isn't the first word I associate with anything I'd like to author a DVD with. It should do one thing, and do it good - author a DVD as I tell it to.
NVE is versatile like a $2 copy of a Swiss Army knife. Pretends to be handy for almost anything. Falls to pieces at first use.
Sorry if I dissapoint you, but that's my opinion. YMMV.

TDA creates a playall button and also allows you to do individual chapters. NVE does not. It cannot create a play list which you need in a Play All situation. Besides, it really really stinks at doing what it claims to be able to do. As was already seggested, stick to and learn to use a real authoring program. TDA is very, very reliable and has never failed me.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

You should probably contact the folks at NERO.I seriously doubt anyone uses this program at this forum.Or would be willing to admit it!

The General consensus seems to be that,it's either TDA or DVD Lab.One has great motion menu features but limited textboxes and the other all the bells and whistles but limited to no real motion menu cababilties(no encoder but can create them)

  8. Thanks Marshall. Emailed Nero before I posted here, but based on previous experience I'm not hopeful of a reply.

Meanwhile I've managed to achieve what I wanted. A simple 2-button Main menu:
    - Play All
    - Chapters

And clicking the latter brings up the first of several other menus ('Chapter menus'?) containing up to 6 buttons, in 2 rows of 3, each of which plays that chapter.

Now that I've satisfied myself it can be done in NVE, I'll try TDA.

The only significant facility I've so far been unable to achieve with NVE is to get complete independence between the main menu and the multiple button ones. With my choice of layout made (2x3, with text labels), the main menu's 2 buttons are at top left. If I drag them to the centre of the screen, then all the chapter button menus get affected too. But that might be due to my inexperience, given this is my first NVE project. Can that be achieved with TDA?
