PAL>NTSC DVD conversion: 2 questions

Hi,
here in Switzerland, I just bought two seasons of Space 1999 in Pal format with English and French audio. I want to give them to a friend in Canada which can play only NTSC on his TV.
I have two questions:
1. is there sw that can convert my dvds pal2ntsc with the two audio tracks?
2. I have a LITEON LVW-5006 dvd recorder. off cable, the conversion to NTSC looks excellent.
For easy conversion, I thought I would play the dvds in one player, send the video composite and audio signals into my LVw-5006 and voila. However the converted movies are extremely pixelated. Does anyone have any suggestions how to cure this problem?

There's no 1 button "all in one" software that will do a decent job...
You'll need a steep learning curve to do it correctly..

Yeah, tell him to get a DVD player that's multistandard..Cyberhome comes to mind..Walmart..
