  1. Hi,

I have some Hi-res MOV files which are big and dont fit in to one reular 4gb DVD.
So i am looking for a way out.
I think RMVB is a good format.
If u can suggest any other format where there is a balance of compression and loss of quality, pls do so.
I am open to opinions and suggestion. at present its 6Gb of data and i need to compress it to fit 4gb DVD.
are there any tools there to convert MOV to RMVB?
    regards,
    Digi

I don't think RMVB is a good format. However producer accepts anything that you can play via dshow, so if you can play the mov's, it can convert it.

What codecs do the mov files use?

  4. hi gunslinger!

i am the same guy...who requested to convert a 6gb iso into a 4gb DVD. remember.
so i am looking for a way to compress those MOV in such a way that there is "some" loss in quality but the files remain watchable and i am able to burn them in one single 4gb DVD.
if RMVB is not a good format then suggest me a better option please.
    regards,
    Digi

AVC in an mp4 or mkv.

What are the specs on the mov's though? Resolution? Audio codec? Number of audio channels? Video codec?

Ignore the size for the moment. Quality is determined (assuming all source is equal) by bitrate. Bitrate is a function of runtime and space requirements. So what is the running time of your video ? (The MOV files)

  7. Over 5 1/2 hours of lecture.
not one single file but many MOV files. but total duration is 5 hours plus. and the resolution is also very hight and i think thats why its so huge! 6gb Plus!

You could keep them watchable and on a single, compliant DVD. Encode them at half-D1 resolution and you will get 5 1/2 hours on a disc. The quality will be softer than the originals, but if it is mainly talking head material, this should not be an issue.
