    Hi there

My daughter has a DVD a friend has lent her which has 4 or 5 (I think) TV episodes on it.

She complained to me that a couple of the epidodes have audio problems (out of sync I think).

Is there any way I can "repair" these for her so the DVD is watchable. Or is it not possible.

Please keep it simple, I am a beginner at this.

    Cheers

It's possible, but not simple at all, especially for a beginner.

You would have to 'take the DVD apart' as in rip it to your hard drive, separate out the sound and video from the VOBs that contain the video and audio combined together, then try to adjust the sync. (Which could be the hardest part of all this. ) After you fix the sync, you would have to reassemble the video and audio, then author (Create new VOBs and menus), and burn the whole thing back to a DVD.

And that's about as simple as it gets. I left out a lot of details.

    Hi there

Thanks for that. Now would you be able to give the steps and the tools required to do it for the non beginner? If it's not too long winded and you don't mind I'd appreciate it. Thanks

    Cheers

    Ok, let's start
First step - rip. As it doesn't look to be a commercial protected dvd, just copy and paste the VIDEO_TS folder from the dvd disk to your hdd.
Second step - Vob2mpeg, to get an mpeg2 out of the VOB files.
Third step - Tmpgenc to demultiplex both video and audio streams.
Next - Open wide your ears to determinate how much the delay is, in miliseconds.
Please let us know when you are there, to help you next steps.
Good luck, not that difficult, just a little long work.

    Hi there

Before I proceed on the quest to learn how to do this I asked my daughter how long the sync problem is. In other words: is it a second behind or forward and she said it's up to 20 seconds out?

Is that possible. I haven't watched the episode/s myself.

Am I still going to be able to repair it, if in fact it's out that much.

    Cheers

Yes, you will. The problem is not how long the unsync is. If it is the same all the movie through, it's fine to fix.
Only if delay is growing as the movie goes, then you really have a problem with no solution. At least, I don't know one.
