  1. I was converting a DivX video file earlier to SuperVCD format. I was using TMPGenc as the encoder and had the video file selected as both the video and audio source. When I was encoding it told me it would take around 10 hours. Later on I ripped the audio from the video file and put it in a .wav using virtualdub, then went back to TMPGenc and selected that as the audio source and the video as the video source.

Well, the time to encode the file then was around 4-5 hours. What happened? I kept all of the other settings the same with bitrates and everything. Does using a wav or some other form of audio to convert the file make the encoding quicker or did something weird happen with my system such as some other application closed allowing more processing power? If another audio source is the key to quicker encoding then I will certainly take advantage of this in the future.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I don't know what the truth of that is. Weird though. Perhaps you freed up some memory. I don't use TMPGEnc much anymore...I use Cinema Craft for SVCD. Sometimes it takes me three hours to encode a 700 mb .avi, sometimes 6-8 hours...it's very strange. It may also have something to do with how fragmented your hard drive is.
