I have a 700 MB DivX video that plays perfectly from my HDD but when I burn it to a CD it doesnt even load !! At first I assumed my burner was busted but then I tried burning other DivX videos and they work perfectly !! So I tried burning the former on 4 different brands of disc but it was of no use !!

Doesn't load where - a stand alone player ? Back into your PC ?

If it is a stand alone player, does your Divx file conform to all the limitations that most stand alone players have ?

Drop it into the latest Gspot and see what it's format really is. Divx is pretty open as far as specs. If the burned CD won't work on your computer, then it must be really messed up. If it won't play on a standalone, then that sounds like your 'converter' program is at fault.

My PC hangs when I try to load it from the disc using PowerDVD Player or any DivX Player.

Even if it was the ripping softwares fault, then how is it that I can play it frm my HDD and not from the CD ??!!

Here's the GSpot snap of the VDO.

  6. MOST likely is that the file has QPEL, which most standalone players won't play. Do a Google search for a little app called avicheck, load your file into it, and ,if QPEL is 'yes", that is probably your problem.

What is you try to open it from CD using VLC or MPC ?

I would also consider updating your version of g-spot. The 2.52beta version is much better than the older version you are running.

Try copying the AVI file from the CD to the hard drive. If you can't perform the copy the CD is bad. If you can perform the copy but the file copied to the HD won't play the burn was bad. If it does play then maybe the video and audio aren't multiplexed. If that's the case, use VirtualDub to remux the audio and video.

As I said in my first post, I tried burning the video in four different brands of Blank Disc. Just to make sure if the burn or CD was bad, I burned other vdo files BEFORE and AFTER I burned the weird vdo.

When I try to copy the vdo frm the CD to my HDD, my PC freezes.

I bet if you wait a long time Windows will eventually abort the copy and give an error message. Windows may retry for several minutes when it has trouble reading a CD or DVD.

Do it enough times, and windows might revert your burner IDE channel to PIO mode.

Is it a Ninja movie? If so, I had the same problem.
Played ok on Hdrive, but always crashed in stand alone DVD player on subsequent burns to CD.
Stangely would stop at the 17 sec mark on playblack, even with multiple burns/media.
Tried a couple of tools (DivxFix & Divx Repair) but they didn't repair it.
Just chopped like 1.5 mb from file.
I think the video file was corrupted.
Not sure if it had Qpel or not.
I'll try that AVicheck Util to see.
I wonder if that is the only recomended divx-Xvid error checkers out there.
