    Thought I'd remind other newbies.
After pulling my hair out for 3 days trying to get some software to work, I went on the net and updated my drivers. The first driver I updated was for my ATI Theatre Pro 550 capture card.
    It solved all my problems

    Which driver? Which software?
Many are struggling with ATI Theatre Pro 550 capture cards.

Pinnacle Studio 9.3 would capture but wouldn't edit. After capture I could play the file in Media Player on the PC. But if I tried to fast forward it would hang, and give the error message that a different codec was needed!
But I couldn't edit or render in Pinnacle
    New ATI driver remedied this

Ulead Sudio 9 would not recognise the capture card and would give a 'device not present' error and hang up. Although it actually did capture video. I found the files on the HD.
    New ATI driver remedied this.
Ulead site says that Ulead products do not support all analogue capture cards.

I went to ATI site and just downloaded the latest driver for my ATI Theatre Pro 550

Only thing that changed was that I get 1 dropped frame at the start of every capture. But as that is always a blank frame it doesn't matter.

I have since captured three 2 hour VHS tapes to Pinnacle Studio, edited them, and burned to DVD without a glitch.

All in all I am very happy with Theatre Pro card.
