Trouble with Dell machine.

I am having trouble using Sorensen Sequeeze (and other software) on a Dell machine.
I am trying to take raw DV footage and compress it in Sorenson Squeeze.
The application seems to just fall over and fails everytime.

I have got all the needed codecs, the main one in this case being the Panasonic comcorder one.

On other machines: fine, no problem whatsoever.

Someone has told me that I need to get rid of all of the codecs on the Dell machine.
Apparently they are notorious for coming equipped with loads of unwanted codecs??

Would this be the solution to my problem?
If so... how do I do this?

and also -- email their tech support support@sorenson.com ... they will help you ...

and yes - some codecs will cause problems .. you should NOT need the panasonic codec though ..

and ive not seen any more issues with dells and unneeded codecs than really any other ... just remove all the crap that they include , that you dont need ...

Dell craps are touchy. The latest sonic/roxio removal/activation bug is one example. I would download all the Dell ( or compaq or hp ) drivers, then re-install XP and all on a new HD in the PC.

that is a little extreme and imposable to do on a dell anyway ..

ive had very good luck with their machines in fact -- when you strip out all the extra stuff

My 4 year old Dell is still going strong...even with the extra crap..

The extra craps in Dell makes startup take forever. But if you use hibernation ( laptop habit ) then it does not matter.

The other issue is what this post is about, interferring with work.

i've had the same from a few people now: format the hard drive and install everything from new - all problems are solved.

erm... i'd say that's the same thing.
(and my question was: how do i do this!?)
you probably know from experience that this is the solution.
but when u have no idea what the problem is and u've wasted several hours trying to get it to work: the best solution is to kill everything and start a new install.

so... i'd say the negatives against dell are more than justified.
