  1. Hello,

I recently have purchased a new computer and installed TMPGenc XPress, just as I have it on my old computer. I am trying to convert .avi to .mpg with TMPGenc XPress but everytime it gives me the following error (while on my old computer the files open just fine):

Could not open the video part of the file.... only the audio part can be opened > OK

I have tried opening at least 10 different .avi files and it always gives me the same error. I also reinstalled TMPGenc and the problem remains.

    Could anyone please help me

    Thank you!

At a guess, missing video codecs. Use g-spot or similar on the avi files to find out what you are missing. Do not install a codec pack, just find what you need and install that.

  3. Thank you for your help!

I donīt have much understanding about codecs but here is what Gspot says:

GSpot was unable to find a suitable codec installed, indicating that this media file not likely playable on this O/S at this time. To be able to play this media file, attempt to locate a suitable codec based on the Format and 4CC given above. Install the codec and then test again with GSpot after the codec has been installed.

Could you please help me with what to do about this?

    Thank you!

DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

The following combination of filters were used:

You need the Xvid codec to start with. Go to the Tools section (to your left) and look under codecs. Obviously you had this on your old machine. Another alternative might be ffdshow.

  6. Thank you!

I installed ffdshow and now the .avi file opens without a problem. But once i click on start output it gives me "invalid sample format 0x80048002". I tried various .avi files and it gives the same error. I also looked into the tools > codecs and installed the one for Xvid called XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe (not sure if it is the right one) but the error remains the same...

All help is appreciated, thank you

That's an audio issue. Could be VBR MP3. I found a couple of references through google, but most were either dead ends or pretty vague.

  9. Well, I have just installed DivX player and codecs and this seems to have solved the problem. Just finished encoding and the video and audio are in place.

    Thank you for your help!
