  1. I'm using a program called MemoriesOnTV to make a 'movie slideshow' DVD on Verbatim DVD-RW. For my current project I've grouped my 160 JPGs into 20 separate Tracks, so that I can associate a different MP3 soundtrack with each. After burning it from MoTV2 that plays fine, from start to finish.

But how can I get my DVD player to let me access any track from the remote please? Entering the track number on the keypad does nothing. If there is something I need to do in MoT before I burn, then so far I've not found it. (I've also emailed the developer, Codejam.)

BTW, after some googling, I'm confused about the terminology, as it seems these 'Tracks' can also be called 'Chapters'?

The finished Video is also stored on my HD, as a folder VIDEO_TS with contents like this:
    VIDEO_TS.BUP 30 KB BUP File
    VIDEO_TS.IFO 30 KB IFO File
    VIDEO_TS.VOB 34 KB VOB File
    VTS_01_0.BUP 14 KB BUP File
    VTS_01_0.IFO 14 KB IFO File
    VTS_01_1.VOB 41,112 KB VOB File
    VTS_02_0.BUP 14 KB BUP File
    VTS_02_0.IFO 14 KB IFO File
    VTS_02_1.VOB 28 914 KB VOB File
    etc

I made another DVD-RW by burning that from HD with Nero Express, but that gave same result.

I also have NeroVision Express, although I'm not yet properly familiar with it. It has an option to make 'Editable DVD' which sounds promising. If I try that, am I looking for something like 'Add Chapters'?

I expect this will all turn out to be very obvious once I've done it once!

If they are chapters then hitting the Next button on your remote should jump you to the next one. If they are titles it might not. Load the disc up into DVD Shrink and it will tell you if you have one title or many.

  3. Thanks, appreciate the fast reply.

None of the remote's buttons changes to next 'Track', including the right arrow button (which I assume is 'Next').

I'm not familiar with DVD Shrink but I've installed and run it to produce this screenshot. Am I right that this shows there are no 'Chapters' but only 'Titles'?

One confusing side issue is that I have 20 Tracks in MemoriesOnTV, which I've shown on the left in the same screenshot. In DVD Shrink these seem to have been split into two groups, 'Main Movie' and 'Extras'. This appears to be somehow connected with my changing the name 'Track 17' to 'Wedding'. But why don't all the tracks appear as 20 consecutive Titles in DVD Shrink, all within the one movie? After all, there is only one. It plays from Track 1 to Track 19, in the order specified in MemoriesOnTV. (There are short black gaps of a second or two betweeen each, BTW, which presumably I can't shorten or remove?)

Any help and advice much appreciated please, as this is all still largely a black art to me

The reason you have the gaps is that MonTV has created 20 movies (titles) and plays them one after the other.

I would download the demo f tmpgenc DVD author. Use the add video function to import you titles onto the one track. Remove the chapter stop that TDA adds to the end of each title, and you will get near seamless playback and chapter controls

  5. Thanks for the follow-up.

Unfortunately I installed TDA a long time back when I had more enthusiasm than free time, so I never got to evaluate it. On trying to start it as you recommend I got told my trial period was over. Re-downloading and reinstalling didn't help. (Not that I expected it to!) So, as I've heard god things about it, I've bitten the bullet and paid up.

However, I must say I now badly need a Beginner's Tutorial, as I'm not clear about the basics (as you gathered from my initial post). Is there something you can point me to please? Unless I've missed it, I was disappointed not to find any such newcomers guide in the Tutorials section of this forum. I learn best by doing, so ideally I need to see a fully-worked example of making a DVD from a VTS_Video folder, complete with menu and chapters etc.

  6. Ah - there is a Help file! I'd not thought to look for it under Options... Studying it now, and should answer most of my immediate questions.

Excellent - that worked fine with the small trial I did with 3 of the 20 titles/tracks. Not yet sure about the niceties of the menu etc, but it cut down the gaps a lot and also gave me menu access to the individual 3 titles/tracks. But, do I have to go through that fairly lengthy procedure for every single title/track please? Is there no way I can get all 20 in one go?

Could you amplify a bit on that please? Where will I find that facility?
