I'm thinkin about buying a Pinnacle/Dazzle to move my Hi8 analog home vids to DVD.
The model 95 moves the signal unaldulterated, while the mod150 has an inline chip to convert the signal real time. Q: will the best burn quality result from letting my desktop do the conversion, or letting the capture device do the conversion?
Hope this makes, sense; obviously I'm a newbie...
    thx

Sounds like you want a hardware MPEG-2 capture device.

I suggest for USB 2.0 that you go with the ADS Instant DVD 2.0 or the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2

If you want to capture in a format other than MPEG and then convert to MPEG using software then I suggest you get a DV AVI capture device such as the Canopus ADVC-110

I second the Hardware encoder. I've used the Hauppauge PVR USB2 for over a year and still like the picture. FWIW mine uses a Conexant encoder chip.

Thanks, all. I'm learning alot real fast from your previous posts (e.g. 3/31 on a/v sync), and who knows maybe some day I can actually contribute something.
