Besweet can get the audio out of an avi and it has a command line or gui interface. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it supports aac. There may be an add on for it though. Also you might try doing a net search for aac to mp3. I think there's a program that converts pretty much any audio source to mp3 like besweet but I don't think its command line (dbpoweramp???).

mplayer can decode to wav or demux. Well if you output to wav, lame.exe can convert directly. Should also be possible to pipe between the two.

mencoder can convert the audio directly, however it can't do audio only. ffmpeg can, but it doesn't appear to support aac in avi.

mencoder does support aac, including from an avi. I just did a test encode to make 100% sure.

I used -ovc copy -oac mp3lame. What is the date of the mencoder build are you using? I was using a 06-03-23 build.

Mediacoder dose support the conversion , but the program can be a pain .. need's more work .

For mp4's , use mp4ui to strip audio out to seperate file , the mediacoder to convert aac to wav / mp3

Yep, some via libavcodec, others via MS's DMO decoders.

    I compiled it myself.

You can find my compiles here: http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/mplayer/

    Main page is: http://celticdruid.no-ip.com/xvid/

If it is still skipping frames, try -noskip. It actually does something in the 27th build. The skipping frames has nothing to do with aac though.
