I was recently given a film clip that appears to be in MPEG2 format. None of the usual apps recognises the codec (AVIcodec, GSpot etc.). For example AVI Codec says the file is: duration 0:00:00, type DSH, 1 audio stream(s), quality 20 %, no video, Audio : 192 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 chan., 0x50 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 1, Supported. TMPEGEnc, Virtualdub or several format converters (WinAVI, WinMPG, VCDGear) can not work with it. AutoGK opens it but gets stuck with the audio in DGI Index. The only application that opens the file no problem is PowerDVD 6. Windows Media Player does not play it, nor does BSPlayer. I have been trying to change format, to something more portable, like DivX or Xvid but so far without any success. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Following are the first couples of lines from the file in Hex & ASCII.
