  1. Hello everyone...i'm trying to compress the videos I have recorded from my tv...

Currently they are (i believe either Mpeg 1 or 2 from TMPG Enc) but they're very large.

I really don't know what to do. I need them smaller to store. These files won't even load in nero to burn to dvd. I like divx...but divx creative bundled ... i didn't like i don't like the .divx extension, i like my mpeg extension.

I tried virtdub and the video didn't turn out to well. to grainy and the image size wasn't right.

I'm stuck and really don't know what to do, please offer some advice.

I would like the easiest way of converting....i loved dr. divx..but it doesn't work anymore...they replaced it.

    Please help.

what video codec did you use in virtualdub?

you can try autogk and make xvid or divx.

  3. I tried using both divx and xvid with virtualdub ...but didnt' like the results.

I used autogk with a few test files and really like it's performance. It was exactly what i was looking for...one more question, what is the best configuration to use?

    Current Config:
    1 CD (700 MB)
    Auto Width
    Auto Audio Type
    Xvid/Divx ... i think i like xvid better.

also i have a mpeg2 clip that is weirdly shaped for some reason, if i adjust the width...do you think it will fix that?

PS. Thanks for all your help...it was the perfect solution.

    vdub and autogk=same output result
    because autogk uses vdubmod.
but i think vdub is better because it gives you more control over the output. you can config more.
if you diden't like it, maybe you used the wrong configs for the codec.

  5. Another stupid question...
for some reason, when i encode the files...i get 3 files.

    for example:

Romy & Michelle In the Beginning.avi
Romy & Michelle In the Beginning.cd1.avi
Romy & Michelle In the Beginning.cd2.avi

I want just one file, i can understand the reasons for cd1 and cd2, but why is it doing both a full video and then 2 spilt videos. I like the option to split them, but i don't understand why it is encoding a full video & split videos?

It encoded the whole thing, THEN split it for you.

  7. Is there a way to stop it from splitting? When i encode all the videos, it's takes up usless space that others can use to encode.
