  1. I try to convert my avi file (xvid) to mpeg-2. Tmpgenc 3.0024 xpress tells me that it cannot open video part of the file. When encoding with cce 072, multipass, vbr, computer shuts down (worked great before). With CBR it creats mpeg2, but quality in this case is not great.

I am very surprised and don't know what to do.

Xvid is installed from the koepi's site.
Checking with virtualDub shows that avi file is OK.

    Please, help me

encoding is not authoring. moving you.

i convert downloaded xvid, divx with divxtodvd. it is not worth spend time with more advanced encoders for such video sources.

  3. If avi is much better quality than mpeg2, so there's no need to conversion at all. Tmpgenc and cce at least give you acceptable quality
