WinTV 2000 getting error message when attempting to record from TV into avi format.
Error is 'Can not Connect VidCompressor T0 AVIMux: HR=0x80040207.
But when I click OK it records. I can't do this when using the timer when I'm not around.

    Please help

Sounds like you are having a problem with one of the codecs you are attempting to capture with. Have you tried changing the video codec to something different and trying an unattended capture?

Just my 2 cents, but that's what that error sounds like it's complaining about - a video codec.

Post back with more info, ok?

    Cheers!

Isn't WinTV 2000 a Hauppauge app? Your profile says you are using an ATI AIW...

Can you refresh me on how to change the CODEC.
I need to update my profile for this system. I have 2 desktops and I use them both.
The desktop I'm having problems with has a Hauppauge card.

    Thanks

What capture card do you have? WinTV 2000 is Hauppage AFAIK, yes (since I use it regularly myself).

In theory it's not possible to record AVI video with any Hauppauge card. I have seen a few posts from people on the internet who claim to have done it, but there has never been any proof. I tried it once and it totally failed. I've seen posts about the chipset that Hauppauge uses and some people insist that it CANNOT under any circumstances be made to record AVI video. Something just doesn't seem right with this post.

I think you've hit it spot on, jman98 - the Win2000 TV software is designed to capture into MPEG format - so whenever you attempt to capture to AVI it will not be able to attach itself to the codec for AVI capturing.

    Good call, jman!!!

Ok if that is the case and it should not record avi then I'm totally confused.
This is what I do, I select the AVI capture option and set the timer for the program. and after I click ok when it gives me the error message I specified above, the capture continues and saves the avi file in the location I specified. The file extenssion is avi and I am able to view the whole show.

It's because yoou have to manually click OK that is the problem - the codec you are trying to use isn't automatically binding when it first attempts to capture - however, by clearing the error message you are somehow able to do so.

With the default settings in Win2000 TV, you should be able to capture in unattended mode and not have any pesky dialog boxes that need your approval before capturing. Of course those captures would be in MPEG-2 format.

Since you are trying to cap in AVI format, you can do so, but not in unattended mode, as that pesky binding error keeps popping up.

    Hope that helps exaplin it.

    Cheers!
