    Hi,

trying to encode dvd to xvid using winavi. I have selected to use the MPEG Layer 3 encoder for the audio and I believe it is using the Frauhnolder Pro codec to do this.

I cannot change the audio bitrate and sample rate, the drop down boxes for these are greyed out and when I click on the button next to selected codec to open the options for the codec, It does not give an option.

In the system settings for this codec, the settings for the fraunholder codec is greyed out.

Please help, tearing my hair out how can I change the bitrate output when I am encoding files because when the file gets encoded it comes out being 56 kpbs.

I want to change to it at least 128

I tried installing the LAME 3 encoder and using this but there was no sound playback even though gspot tells me i have the codecs to playback for this file

    Please help!!

    Thanks

According to a recent post from a now banned WinAvi spammer, you can't use anything more than 56 kbps MP3 in WinAVI. He/she tried to make this sound like a universal law (like the speed of light), but we all know is just due to a shortcoming in WinAVI.
I suggest you try some of the better (and free) applications for DVD to AVI like AutoGK or avi.net. Or contact WinAVI support.

    Thanks for that.

Any other ripper out there that lets you also crop / stretch the video as well..

Its funny because in the help file it shows the panel encoding an avi file and the options are available to select!

Well, cropping/stretching is hardly a task for the ripping process - But I think you'll find those options in avi.net / autoGK, even if I've found their default resizing/cropping to work very well, and never botherd with changing this.
