I was wondering if anyone can please help out a newbie..
I have tried the guides here and googled but no luck. If anyone knows a guide to answer my problem if you could please send a link that would be great - Thanks
Basically I recorded a 4:3 show to DVD recorder and now I want to encode the DVD back to an xvid.
The problem is, when I use the ripping program, it is reading the video as not being full 4:3 and is actually cutting a small strip of the sides of the video.
What I would like is a simple ripper where I can encode the file to xvid at say 512 x 384 resolution but while being able to stretch the video to full 4:3 so the video goes to all way to the edges.
I am using 1 Click DVD to AVI and this program works will but will not do the cropping / stretching part.
I am also trying Winavi Video Converter which can crop and stretch and encode to xvid but I am having issues with this for the audio encoding - I choose MPEG Layer 3 for the audio encoding but the options for changing the audio bitrate are greyed out, also I click the settings button next to the audio encode drop down box and this does not give an options screen to be able to change these settings.
I have tried using LAME 3 codec to do the sound but when I playback the video I have no sound even though G Spot tells me I have the required codes to play back this audio
The strange thing is, 1 Click DVD to AVI is using LAME 3 to encode sound and it plays back fine!! - But I think 1 Click has an internal LAME 3 encoder as I did not have to install the LAME 3 codec for this
At this stage I dont care if I have to rip in 2 stages where I use 1 Click DVD to AVI to rip to xvid, and then use a program which can stretch the video to full 512 x 384
So if anyone knows of a simple program to stretch avi to full 4:3 512 x 384 would be great
Alternatively if anyone is able to help why I cannot adjust bitrate settings for WinAVI would be great then I can encode and stretch in one go..
The MP3 codec I was using before I installed LAME 3 was Fraunholder Pro. But when I go into this codec in system properties, the settings button is greyed out. If anyone knows how you can adjust encoding bitrate settings for this codec would be great
Thanks

Hate to say this, but are you SURE that border wasn't in the file itself? Basically, does the DVD play properly (i.e. no border) on the PC?

Hi,
The border is showing when I play the DVD on my laptop and via dvd player in high res
the dvd border is not showing when playing through a dvd player set at normal resolution.. -

The borders are hidden in the overscan area. They are are there in the DVD encoding, but not visible on your TV. All discs have some footage hidden. Look it up in the glossery.Read my blog here.
