First of all let me say hello to all of you, i'm new here but interested in the subject so I hope to be reading/posting regularly.

I'm having difficulty encoding/burning 2 seperate AVI files. The video plays on my computer (using VLC and media player) but when I come to burn it, the resulting DVD doesn't play smoothly and keeps pausing or skipping. Totally un-watchable in other words.

I've tried encoding/burning with 2 different applications (Nero 7 and dvdSanta) but the result is the same..

    How do I overcome this?

  2. Welcome. I hope you learn a lot.

Your problem could be caused by bad media. Try burning at a slower speed.
    Hope this helps.

Don't use DVDSanta or Nero would be the first thing I would recommend. If you must use a all-in-one, ConvertXToDVD is an improvement. There is a freeware version if you want to try it.

I'll assume other DVDs made using programs like DVDShrink work on your player? Even then, I would try different media. Sometimes you have to find the best combination between media, burning programs, burners and your stand alone players. Pausing and skipping is most often a media problem.

If you want to go beyond the all-in-one converters, then try TMPGEnc or other standalone encoders. You would also need an authoring program to create the DVD format. Then you can burn with Nero. It does that well, just not the other stuff, IMO.

Giving ConvertXToDVD a go now, thanks. I would favour an all in one solution if it gets the job done - bit new to this.
