Hi, I'm having a new system built as I type this, and I've been having
an unknown problem with my existing 110d, which in the end could be
something in the computer itself.
Anyway, has the 111d been out long enough for someone to rate it up against
the 110d.
For the record my existing 110d will not write at 4 speed on Verbatims DVD-Rs
( coasters after 30 seconds )
The 110d will however write at 6 speed, but the dvd movie stutters between
the first 3 & 6 seconds of the movie and is then OK till the end.
Has anybody else had a problem with a 110D ?
Thanks
Scott

I've had no problems such as what you have with the 110D. I've installed two 111D's and will be installing another one as soon as it's delivered. So far nobody has reported any problems with them.

To paraphrase a line from "This Is Spinal Tap": 111 is one higher now, isn't it?
Or maybe "Mr. Mom" would be better: 110, 111 - whatever it takes. -
Have not seen a review anywhere yet on the 111d - not in depth anyway. From what I have read there is little difference between it and the 110d. It does use a newer variation of the NEC chip used in the 110. I'm not sure what your 110's problem is but I don't think it is typical of the drive. What firmware are you using on the 110d? Which Verbatim's are you attempting to burn at 4x? If these are Verbatim 16x media (MCC.....004 or MCC 03RG20) then some drives have difficulty underspeeding those media codes. Here in the US we don't get some of the media id's that Verbatim uses in other parts of the world. Could you identify the media code of the dvd's in question?

My Pioneer 111 is very good with TY T02, TYG02 and MCC 004 at 12X. Can't comment on the 110, but Pioneer has a pattern of good drives ending in odd numbers. 107,109, 111 are all good burners.
Still a few bugs in the system... -
I was looking for a new firmware by buffalo for the 110d, and all the forums mention the Dangerous Brothers, and rpc1... I saw that page two days ago, but now that my new 110d is here, that site is down and I can't find this fw anywhere!
Any ideas how to get it? I really want to use the autobitsetting features it has... to use dvd+r disks to create dvd-rom burns...

How dare you want to burn DVD+R on a Pioneer.Originally Posted by dscrib

Just go with Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs or Verbatim MCC DVD-R discs.

Maybe you don't scan burns so you haven't seen the differences; TY and MCC +R is vastly better on any drive I have tested (10 and counting) Pioneer included.Originally Posted by FulciLivesStill a few bugs in the system...

I'll buy into surface scans that show bad blocks and even the RPM SPEED test scans with the graph as that comments on readability but I don't buy into the whole PI error scan garbage.Originally Posted by chas0039

YUDEN-000-T02 DVD+R 8x media is probably one of the best blank discs ever made. It ranks up their with some PVC and MKM stuff.

Too bad. You miss so much useful information on disc differences as well as burner ability.Originally Posted by FulciLivesStill a few bugs in the system...

I agree with lordsmurf and chas0039 on this one. This media has burned exceptionally well in any burner I've ever tried it in. I can't think of any other media I could state that for off the top of my head. I have two Pioneers (108 & 111) and can concur that TYG02, TYG03, MCC 02RG20 and MCC03RG20 all burn well - just not with the consistency of the YUDEN000 T02's.Originally Posted by lordsmurf
I enjoy scanning as a hobby. It saved me on one occasion by alerting me to growing problems with a number of family videos burned on Ritek G04's. I was able to firsthand monitor the growing errors in scans long before they actually showed read errors/playback errors. All were salvaged.Originally Posted by chas0039
I do realize it takes an awful lot of time and effort to scan and then it's all a matter of interpretation. I respect the opinions of those who have doubts, but add me to the list of believers.

my 106d burnt about 500 dvds perfectly and is now in my brothers pc still going strong. i now have the 110d for the last couple of months and while it seems to burn fine i have noticed it does a LOT of buffer underruns (the burners buffer) using dvd decrypter, imageburn, nero to burn a disc so its not just the program. ive tried it in 3 different pc's all with plenty of ram, cpu, hard drive space. infact i have 3 hard drives in my pc with one for OS one for backup and one for video/dvd. i am not too concerned since even though it does a lot of buffer underuns (sometiomes slowing the burn to under 1x) and yes i have dma on for the burner and hard drives. the dvds seem to play fine in my dvd players. i did have a problem a while ago with 3-4 dvd+r dl (verbatim) only burning about 10% then giving an error and making a coaster. i also always have the latest official firmware on it.

FulciLives,
I have the 108D flashed with Piodata F/W which automatically burns +R discs to DVD ROM. I have yet to find a player that does does play DVD ROM discs, so, why are you against +R blanks ??? -
stackner could the burner be hooked up to a Promise controller card or built-in promise controller? That tends to cause exactly what you are describing. Try hooking the burner up to one of the main mobo controllers such as secondary IDE master or slave and see what happens.

Oh please let's not get into that.Originally Posted by blinky88

Which unfortunately seems to be the norm now as we enter the HDTV optical disc age with two formats ... of course I'm talking of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

thanks for the help. when it was in my moms pc itwas direct to the mobos ide. i put it in mine direct to the mobos ide hooked up exact same as my dvd burner that works and also in an external usb case that also worked with my working dvd burner so i am still at a loss. i think its a fault in the burner. shame though.Originally Posted by TBoneit
