  1. using nero 5.5.2.4 to burn to cd-rw with no luck....burns fine to cd-r though, but my dvd player only plays(supposedly) cd-rw vcds.

    I am using a HP CD-Writer Plus 8100

It starts to burn to the cd-rw and gets to 1% then freezes. Program goes in WINDOWS Close program list as (not repsonding). The CD-RW disc I am trying to use shipped with an IOMEGA CD-Rewrite drive, no idea who the manufacturer is. It IS erased and not formatted.

    Thanks!

  2. if you're trying to burn a VCD, i can't help u much. i;m stil new to that. but if the drive only gets to 1% and freezes, i might be able to help you. i used to have the same problem with my acer. if the drive is internal make sure the cable is tight. same for an external, make sure you have a good connection. also, you'll need to format a CD-RW the first time u try to use it. this might take up to an hour dependeing on teh speed of your burner. this might help u some...

I get a very similar error with Nero - it gets to 1% and freezes although if I'm only burning a small amount the percentage goes up, probably indicating that it's freezing on a fixed amount of data. With me it only happens when I try to burn audio CDs using some cheap 80-minute CDRs (that I just happen to have 100 of!).
The same CDRs work with data and with VCD and I can write audio CDs on other CDRs and CDRW.

I'm still trying to figure out what the problem is - but you are not alone Kev, all I can suggest is try different media.
