Take a look through the HOW TO - CONVERT section. Then just search on mpg to vcd conversion.

Interesting... I just typed in MPEG to VCD in search tool, and came up with 35 pages of information. Really don't mind helping people, but I sure as hell won't do all of the work for you... Search, read, then come back and I'll be happy to try to answer any questions that you have.

VCD is a very tight specification. Read WHAT IS, VCD top left. On a regular 700 MB CD, you can fit 79-80 minutes of video in VCD format.

Ok , found where this one was hiding .

If user's pm me , please copy the web link from the adress bar ... it take's time locating these thing's ... and would be much appreciated .

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a few tool's capable of clipping mpeg's , most are commercialware , which place's them in the junk bin , apart from a few , like ulead video studio ... If you want to cover a complete range of idea's dealing with mpeg's , then lookup ulead video studio 7 , 8 or 9 , the se edition's in ebay , there cheap .

Version 9 can produce lpcm audio , and convert mov , asf , wmv (unprotected) .

    All version's can clip , version 7 need's only 2 updated dll's if using xp with sp2 , version 8 has an 80mb download to fix filter's , v9 seem's ok .

So why bother with tool's that only handle clipping , for the same money , you can get more ...

It is the best tool for frame rate conversion's ... never a problem with nstc to pal and back .

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The program's I personally hate are those developed as freeware , and as soon as the bug's are fixed from user input , they go commercial ... in my book it's back stabbing user's , and is why I push freeware ... and support it whenever I can through guide's and helping newbies when they get stuck .

The free method is using virtualdub to frameserve the mpeg , choosing your start and end frame's , then frameserve to bbmpeg (as avi) , or quenc (as avs) ... bbmpeg has better setting's and control over output quality .

Of course this envolve's that nasty term "re-encoding" , but it can't be helped .

An explaination of such process can be found here :

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=270071

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Should this mpeg be of mpeg2 type , then this is even simpler , and free .

The process involve's batchdemux to seperate the video and audio stream's .
Besweet to re-encode the audio to ac3 .

Then open the mpeg m2v stream in vdub , and locate the frame you need to clip at .
Write this down in a text file called celltime's .

Run ifoedit , goto author dvd , load m2v video , load new ac3 sound , load cell time's text file , choose output folder , and let it rip .

All you need do after this is done is to open the produced vob in vobedit , sellect demux , choose via cell id , sellect demux complete title set , choose new folder for output , and go .

It will be perfectly split where you needed it to be .

This can also be used to split video at I frame's , as someone asked this before ... however I am not the person who designed this program , so it is anyone's guess if this will be entirely accurate .

    If I was , I would have guaranteed such feature's .

For info regarding mpeg2 spliting , read this :

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=291744

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this is going to be alot to take onboard ... too learn I mean , but after a while it become's second nature ... after all it hasn't cost you a cent for the tool's ... unless you decided you couldn't live without ulead video studio "se" being part of you collection .

The confusion is in your use of the term "shorten", what you are really wanting to do is "EDIT". In which case there is also a HOW TO - EDIT section.

Here is the search I did from this site. While all of these won't pertain to your situation, I guarantee that quite a few will. I'm not the dik, you are. I'm just trying to get some lazy people to do a little work on their own, before they start asking for somebody to do everything for them. That is how I learned, and how most of the rest of us learned. I'm happy to share what I know, but I'm not going to come to your house, hold your hand, put the dvd's in for you, and run the programs... From your spelling, I gather that you are either very young and inexperience, or uneducated.

Do you want to copy the VCD? You can just do a disk copy using any burning software.

Or do you want to extract an mpeg from the VCD? You can do that with isobuster.
