Ok call me new ...... i'm just getting started so yes i'm new. I'll be as concise as possible. I have a .img file that is too large to fit on a regular DVD+R> I"m using Nero. Nero will shrink the file to fit on one dvd. My question is will i lose quality if i shrink it. Would it be better to cut the .img in half and make two dvds? If so How do i cut the .img in half using nero or another peace of free software if i can't use nero. I've tried to mess with nero but i cn't figure it . I'm thiking i'd like to cut the two halves then save each halve as its own entity ...... Could someone help with exact directions thnks.........

You can neither shrink nor cut an img file down in size. It's an image of a CD or DVD. You can extract what's inside the img and treat it however you want, but image itself is immutable.
How to proceed depends on the content of the img. Mount it with Daemon Tools and have a peek.

What's the .IMG file of? I'm assuming a compliant DVD? How big is the DVD file it wants to burn? If it's just a little a little larger, extract it to a DVD file with ISOBuster, then run it through DVDShrink to reduce the size. You could also split it with Shrink and burn to two DVDs.

I find it strange that a DVD image file would be made that wouldn't fit on a DVD. That kind of defeats one of the purposes of making a DVD image file in the first place. I certainly wouldn't let Nero re-encode it if you want to preserve any quality. Nero is a poor tool for that. It's a good burner, though.

    And welcome to the forums.
