    This is only happening when I try to open certain video files.

    if/when I try to open certain xvid files I get the vfapi frameserver error. I just reinstalled the k-lite codec pack. The files will open in media player classic.

    Ok. I solved it. Apparently if you install the "mega" codec pack(k-lite) then vfapi breaks. Use the "full" version then it works.
