    Hi,

I'm editing a 16:9 video I taped with a Sony HC1000 miniDV camcorder. Now i'm using Premiere Pro 1.5 and i want to preview the video on my regular 4:3 TV (Sony Triniton from 2003) through the camcorder.

How can i get the video letterboxed or in the correct aspect ratio and not the large video (result of a 16:9 adapted to 4:3 without letterbox). Is there any chance to get it right in this 4:3 TV?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

Is there a PREVIEW TARGET for your camcorder? If not, then your preview should look "squashed" horizontally. It shouldn't be so bad that you can't use it to edit.
    ICBM target coordinates:
    26° 14' 10.16"N -- 80° 16' 0.91"W

    Thanks for your answer.

There's no PREVIEW TARGET in my camcorder.

I'm getting used to watch the preview on the tv "squashed" but for the details of the video is useful to watch it in the normal aspect ratio. It seems that new 4:3 TVs can set the aspect ratio automatically but not in mine.

¿There's nothing i can do to watch the preview letterboxed?

I know that's the best option.
But this business isn't giving enough money to buy one.

Does it have S-Video? I recollect reading in my manual it will disply correctly if you use s-video. At least on mine.

I tried with S-Video but gives the same "squashed" preview of the RCA connection.

I think I must get a new TV or get used to work with squashed video.

I don't know if I am too late, but my portable DVD player is 16:9 and it has video input. I use it sometimes to play my Xbox widescreen when my wife is watching TV.

I know there are others but mine is the Pioneer PDV LC10. I love it.

Maybe it can be a cheap alternative for you?

I think now I'm late to answer but thanks for your idea of the Pioneer DVD Player. If I can find here could be a cheap alternative.

A friend told me that his old JVC VCR (don't know the model) automatically changes the aspect resolution if the camcorder connected in the video input has 16:9 footage. I'll try to get more details but seems to work in the same way as the Pioneer DVD Player.
