I can't seem to get subtitles when I rip foreign titles with dvddecrypter. I've tried on multiple PCs and have used two different .VOB playing software (powerdvd and zoomplayer). The subtitles or languages option is "greyed out" on both, so I cannot turn on subtitles (assuming they are even there). I turned on streaming mode and made sure the subtitles were included, still can't seem to turn them on. Has anyone run into this?

  2. Why not try dvd shrink.
Life is like a pothole, you just have to learn to get around it.

Try opening the entire ripped DVD folder in your player instead of just a .vob. I'm not sure the subs will show up when you just open a .vob.....never tried it but something tells me NO.

Thanks for the ideas. I have tried opening the entire video folder, unfortunately had the same experience.. although I'm not certain I'm following the correct procedure. I used to open up ripped .vob files and the subs were there but who knows.
I just started using dvdshrink based on another post I made today, is there any reason to use dvddecrypter any longer, it looks like dvdshrink has everything decrypter has and more?

Is is a factory pressed DVD you are ripping or a copy?

There are many things that DVDDecrypter can do that DVDShrink cannot....you may find that out once you get more "into" DVD-ing.

  6. Both DVDDecrypter and DVDshrink have been discontinued for some time now. DVDFab Decrypter is the current freeware ripping utility that is pretty popular and works rather well (if not a bit simplified).

    My methodology is:

    1) try to rip the disc with DVDDecrypter
    2) if I get errors from DVDDecrypter, I use DVDFab Decrypter
    3) test the ripped files in PowerDVD and/or Media Player Classic
    4) open the ripped files in DVDShrink to adjust compression and so forth

I've been using this procedure for many months and have yet to come across any discs that I am unable to rip.

    Good luck!

  7. Are you opening up the .vob file or the .ifo file in PowerDVD? I think you need to open the .ifo file to get different audio or subtitle streams to work properly.

  8. Two posibilities:
1.You ripped the files in IFO mode instead of File mode.
    2.The DVD doesn't have subtitles.
