does anyone know how to disable the annoying noise a pc makes before you boot up, it's nothing at fault with the computer as this is just something that has always happened by factory, but i want to disable it.
ive tried these couple things, with no avail
any help would be appreciated![]()

The beep comes from the bios, well before windows loads. You can't stop it from windows. You might be able to stop it with a bios setting, but the simplest way is to disconnect the crappy little speaker in the PC case. Understand that this does have a purpose though - it signifies a successful completion of the Power On Self Test (POST). Different combinations of beeps tell you what problems were encountered when boot up fails for some reason. If you kill the beeps, and something goes wrong, you won't know what happened.

As guns1inger says, you may be able to disable it from BIOS. When you start up, keep pressing delete (not backspace) and you should get in, although it might be something different on your motherboard, perhaps a function key.
If you're new to BIOS, don't touch anything you don't understand. You'll find the setting somewhere if your motherboard has that ability, otherwise you can just disconnect the case speaker. However, you will then be unable to hear any warning codes the motherboard might need to give you, or the overheat alarm and so on.
If I were you, I'd leave it well alone. If it's really very annoying, perhaps too loud, you could replace the speaker. -
right, what are the settings i need to look for?? after hitting 'delete'
there isnt a way i can disable it from the normal device manager or anything of that sort (ive already opened the shell and cant seem to find anything that even resembles a speaker) -
There is no way that you can disable it from Windows. It is a fundamental part of your PC.
If you're looking for the speaker, it may not look like one. Refer to your motherboard manual (or find one online if you don't have it) to see where the speaker plugs in, and you can trace it back from there. Sometimes they can even be a little black cylinder (seen them being about 1cm in diameter and 1.5cm long) dangling on a cable, or even soldered directly onto the motherboard.
As for the BIOS setting, you'll need to look for yourself. I don't know what motherboard you have, so it's very hard to offer any advice. Try "POST BEEP" or something like that - I think I've seen a motherboard that has that option. -
As mentioned, this is not a Windows-controlled option, the beep happens Before Windows loads.
Some Mobos do not have a setting to change this, either disconnect the speaker or there may be a jumper on the board to disable the speaker.
This is not recommended, if a problem develops which prevents monitor display, such as short, CPU or power supply failure, memory or video card failure, the beep codes identify the problem. -
As Nelson37 points out it isn't wise to disable this important POST audio. If you want to stop the beeping I'd recommend you only pull the cord for the speaker but note it's location so you can easily reconnect it if necessary.

How can I prevent the warning lights from flashing on and off when I start my car?
There are reasons for that "annoying noise" as you call it. It indicates your pc is operating normally. When it isn't, you you hear nore than one beep, or none at all.
Perhaps you don't want to let someone else know you are turning it on?TANSTAAFL -

If this small beep is your only problem i'd say deal with it
I've never even thought about trying to turn it off 8)

If you don't switch it off, you'll never get a POST beep......

If you have the small piezoelectric type speaker soldered directly on the MB you could use a small piece of tape to cover the top. It will greatly muffle the sound, yet you could still hear the faint beep in case there is an error.

Uhm, yes, my reason for starting the thread. Dont want to wake up others while they are sleeping, as my school and work requires me to be on/off the pc at all hours of the night
so on the motherboard or whatever, would pheonix be it, i know upon trying to go into my BIOS settings i see pheonix at the top. maybe that will give you a better understanding if it's possible. i also couldnt find a setting with a 'post beep' option, maybe im looking at the wrong thing -
Just disconnect the speaker, or don't turn off the PC (put it into Standby mode).

Is this an OLD computer that makes the noise or a newer one? I have no idea what he is talking about. Only comp i remember making a noise upon startup was an old Pentium-II Pc i used to use way back in 1998.
My current Laptop, as well as my last two desktops i built, made no startup noises -
I get the POST beep with both my laptop (Pentium III) and desktop (Athlon64).

My computer will only make that beep if the "quick boot" option is disabled in BIOS. The only difference the full boot makes (that I can tell) is that the full ram is checked. I haven't had any hardware problems, so I enable quick boot. You might have that option in your bios setup menu if you want to try it yourself.

My PC doesn't make the POST beep because it never actually passes the POST!
(heavily overclocked means the motherboard has a fit every time it POSTs!)
