If I convert a 400 megs avi file into mpeg will it be able to fit on a 1 cd (vcd) and how long will the conversion take ?

It's very easy to calculate the size of a vcd...a vcd is about 10 MB /minute. And a VCD fits 74 min/video=740 MB...if it's above that you need to cut it.

how long does it take to join or split files ? does it take a long time ?

To just join/cut video should just take some few minutes. To encode/convert a avi to mpg takes some hours depending on your processor.

Thanks for the replies Baldrick, ur one real helper but i have two more question... when burning it on a 74 min cd, does it use the minutes on the cd or does it use the amount of space on the blank cd ? and how long will it take to burn 400 meg file on a pentium 2 - 350 proccesor
