Converting VOB to AVI.

Is there a way to convert VOB file AVI. I have a VOB and need to convert it to AVI for editing. I though VirtualDub does it, but apperantly it does not.

I can always burn the VOB to a DVD and then capture it, but the file is on 3MB and I do not want to waste a DVD.

virtualdubmod or virtualdub-MPEG2 should do it fine. With such a small file I'd recommend DV-AVI to retain sufficient quality.

I got the AVI file, but now I cannot load it into the After Effects. I get an error message "No such AVI compressor".

Maybe I am not saving it correctly.

what are the correct steps to save the file?

Video > Full Processing Mode.
Video > Compression - choose and configure a codec.
Audio > Direct Stream Copy.
File > Save as AVI.

That's really all there is to it.
