I need some serious help and maybe you guys are the ones to do it. I’ve burned about 3 dozens DVD’s with little to no problems. All of a sudden I'm getting nothing but coasters. I’ve been using the same media and software. I changed nothing, but suddenly It’s doesn’t work. It starts the burn and get anywhere from halfway to 3 quarters of the way through. I tried changing From Nero 6 to Nero 7, nothing. I tried removing the DVD burner and reinstalling it. I tried burning an ISO file to the HD and using DVD decrypter to burn, again nothing but error’s. By the way I use DVD shrink to convert the files. I updated the latest firmware I could find for my burner but it doesn’t seem to matter. I looked over all the forums and I couldn’t find a solution to my problem. I’m at the end of my rope. Please help. Here’s my Nero error log. Thanks.

P.S. I use two different types of DVD-R media, Verbatim and a cheaper brand. Neve had any problems with either until now. Thanks again.

Have you installed any new software recently?
I was getting burn errors after installing Skype. I removed Skype from my start-up programs and everything went back to normal....just an example mind you....other software my cause the same problems.

Also a problem with your log:
    Disc Manufacturer: PRINCO -

I know you've tried several brands...but these are generally viewed as the bottom of the barrel DVD's.

This happened to me a couple years ago. If it's not the software or the quality of the disks then most likely it's a problem with the burner- they do go bad eventually.

The last two DVD burners that I've had die on me, did almost without any warning. The DVD laser can and does burn out even after just having burned a perfect disk. The next time you try it it won't even recognize that you have any media in the drive. There are apparently two lasers one for DVD and one for CD. Different diameters and or color beams maybe?? I am not sure. In those two mentioned cases, I did not experience a trouble period of time where burns where begining to fail, they both simply stopped burning.
Have you tried to successfully burn a CD? That will tell you if it is a software or PC problem or the DVD Burner itself. You might find out that you can indeed burn a good CD and not a DVD. You could always try a differnet drive from another machine or just get a new one. Excellent ones can be had for ridiculous low prices this day.

By the way, if I only had a dollar for every time someone tells me that nothing has changed in or on their computers,,,,
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

Thanks for the feedback guys. As for the disc's, i know there not the best (x-mas gift) but they have been succesfull unitl now.

When I say I didnt change anything on the computer, I mean i did'nt "0ntentionally" change anything. Dont think i installed anything different. Cant find anything different. i was looking for that sony root kit on my computer but the few scans i ran cant find it. Dont know if that would stop the burn or not.

And the burns start, they just dont finish. Do you think the laser would give out during the burn? Sounds kinda odd. Hope that's not the case.

    Again, i appreciate the feedback.

Is there a reason you're looking for the Sony rootkit? I performed several tests a few months ago and was able to determine that even using proper removal procedures in, at best, erratic computer operations. I knowingly installed it and the only way I was able to get rid of that infection was to format. The DRM company paid me for my losses and Sony re-issued my CDs sans the rootkit and gave me 3 Album downloads.

There's other components in the burner that can fail (the laser, motor, etc). And when they fail they don't necessarily just quit working completly- they can still work but not work correctly.

If you try different media and different software and still have the same problem, you could try to move the drive to a different computer and see if it works there. If none of that solves the problem then it's a pretty sure bet that there's a problem with the drive. If one of those things stops the problem then it's probably not the drive.

I was looking for a sony rootkit because I think i might have backed up a sony dvd. I put in a dvd and the whole computer slowed down after that. BUT.... it was still burning dvd's with no problem. Thats why i thought maybe a root kit might be taking it's toll on my system

  10. Let's go back to basics here.

Change the cable that connects your DVD drive(s) to your motherboard. I had a similar issue - burns would complete but be full of errors. It was the cable.

I believe the root kit was only on CDs (music), not on DVDs.

    Stumpy,

You have explained (above) my problem EXACTLY, right down to the error #1135. It happened all of the sudden, after no software or hardware changes to my system. It was late February to early March when my burning turned into a coaster maker. I tried downgrading my Nero version to the oldest i could find trying all different ways to rip & burn with the exact same result - after 8% burn complete - write error #1135 and a new coaster.

This weekend i finally had the time to sit down and get it fixed. I did 2 things only so not sure which 1 fixed it but am back to getting good burns now. I made no other changes to my software or hardware setup. 1st I upgraded to the latest burner drive firmware (Sony DRU-700A). Then I downloaded the latest ASPI driver from Nero (http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/ASPI_Driver.html) and copied it into my Nero dir, rebooted and whalla, proble solved. back to perfect burns again.

I think something from the internet took me out. There were a few windows security updates in the last few weeks which I let install, not sure - just a thought. Am suspecting something like this becuase my problems started when I wasnt making any software or hardware changes to my system.

    mhub1,
thanks for the reply. it seems that everyone gave up on my problem. I'll give it a shot. My DVD-burner is pretty old so i dont think I can find a newer update thatn I have. I've been looking. But I'll try looking for a Nero patch to help.
I'm not sure what took my system down because i cant find any unusual adware or virus's on my system. i actually think that is was a DVD that i backed up. Things seemed to slow down during certain DVD's. cant figure out why. Hopefully your suggestion would help. thanks again

I once had the very same problem .... i tried everything from reinstalling software to completely reformatting the hdd ... no joy ... then i thought ... i haven't tried the obvious .... cleaning the lasers lens, so i purchased a lens cleaner disk and after running it in the drive several times things began to improve slightly as some disks would burn completely but others would fail, i decided to remove the drive from the pc and remove the cover from the drive and clean the lens manually with a cotton bud (i believe they're called q-tips in the U.S.) and the solution that came with the cleaning disk .... after reassembling, the drive worked great and continued to do so for more than a year until it was replaced by a faster drive (it was only a 4x dvd-r/w drive) never had another coaster

    Hey Stump,

the more i think about it, it seems like my ASPI driver got stompped. I use Nero to burn with so that is where i went for a new aspi driver. all i know is it works perfect now, and the only other thing i changed was the burner firmware. wish i would have done the 2 things seperately so i would have known. didnt want any more coasters (my recent supply is huge).

if you use Nero to burn, go there for a new aspi driver with the link i mentioned.

i'm glad you mentioned you were experiencing the same problem i was seeing (exactly) as it helped me track it down faster - i was considering a reformat c: . it wouldnt suprise me if 1 of the movie studios are putting out little software tweeks to keep us on our toes.

Hope you get going again. Good luck.

I havent had a chance to update Nero yet, but now that I'm thinking about it, I had the same problem trying to burn the disc with DVD decrypter as well. So i'm not sure that would be the problem but I will give it a shot anyway. And I'll definatly try and clean the lens. It wont hurt I guess.

  18. hey stumpy don't change your burnet these error can occur if the files that you are burning or if they are video files conatin charachters like these ][ it hapened to me before try to rename the file and remove [] or ~é charachters especially if they in the end of the files some movie files are like this [5353873] at the end remove all these charachters basichly remove all the charachetrs other than letters and numbers if you wanna seperate the letters or words with something use underscore _ but first try jsut letters and numbers and tell me how it worked

also if you have some japanese charachters or chinese or korean or something in the folder where the image you wanna burn is rename the folder or also the file that contain the charachters

use cheetah dvd burner if you wanna burn dvd data it's a good software tell me how everything worked
