I read your tute on putting VCD to DVD, but it looks as though this is for converting DVD to VCD then putting back on DVD. Will a standard VCD encoding work without the multiplexing?? In other words can I take my home movies and cap at VCD standard(MPEG) and just burn with Nero/VCDEasy/TSCV...? This would pretty much cover all my home vids And since quality is poor in, quality is poor out!!

  2. I may get some of the nuances wrong, and I am sure the semantics will be wrong, but I think I know what you want to do, and if I am right, yes it can be done.

If you want to burn VCD quality mpgs to a DVD (which is what I think you want to do), the answer is yes you can. Just make sure that your audio is encoded at 48 KHz, and you will be fine to burn mpg 1 video onto a DVD and play it in a DVD player.

It really is a great way to go, since the quality was questionable to begin with. I did this with the Band of Brothers series from HBO, since I recorded them on VHS, I knew I wasn't going to gain any quality by encoding them as MPEG 2's, so I encoded them as MPEG 1's with a 48 KHz audio stream and then was able to burn all of the episodes (totaling 6 gigs) on two DVDs. Again, I can't say enough about how great it is to be able to burn VCD quality stuff to a DVDR!

One final note, if you are burning to a DVD you will need to use some sort of authoring prorgam, in other words, you can't burn the VCD file structure to a DVD and have it work, unfortunately things don't work that way. Spruceup is a pretty easy/good program, as is Ulead's DVD program although ulead's program doesn't give you a whole lot of flexibility on the look and feel of menu's.

Hopefully this helps you, if not, just be like my wife and ignore me
