Just wondering, why don't DVD's and such have interlace lines when viewed on the computer with software that DOES NOT de-interlace (should see the interlace lines, such as VLC or CyberLink with the option to de-interlace deactivated).
There are a few DVDs where the intro appears interlaced, but the actual movie does not.

Broadcast (TV) source is transmitted interlaced. Film source is non-interlaced.
So a progressive source file doesn't need de-interlacing to look right -
you know, as soon as i hit submit, i realized your response was the answer. It explains why inverse telecine is in existance!
