This is my story: I have a concert dvd done on a stand alone dvd recoredr. The chapters on this dvd are randomandly placed throughout the dvd. I have successfully converted this dvd to MPEG-2. I would like to reburn this dvd with chapters begining at the start of each song. I have nero burning program, however, when I load this MPEG onto the nero express 2 I get a distorted picture and cannot chapter this distorted mess.
Can someone help me through this situation?

Hi illyad,
Have you tried any other authoring tools? There are some fairly decent free ones you might try... And they should be able to do your chaptering for you. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Mpeg2schnitt or cuttermaran. But these two require elementary streams. You can directly demux the vob files to elementary streams. See: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=111#111
GUI for dvdauthor:

I am now having problems converting to mpeg. I have been using Smart Ripper 2.41 to rip the vts_01 thru 04. I am then going to dvd2avi program to seperate video and audio file. I then use TMPGEnc.plus 2.5 to marry the two files as a mpeg. The TMPGE counter tells me that there is a 11 hour time to create this file but my computer always shuts off about half way thru and that leaves me with about half of my video file converted to mpeg. How can I prevent my computer from shutting down and not completing the mpeg conversion? Is this a setting on my computer ? I do not know. Please offer me some help.

Can someone suggest an mpeg program that allows me to paste mpegs together for the purpose of burning them to dvd. Thanks much for all help and advice I have recieved from this site.

I have been successful cutting my mpeg file using
TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, however after I cut and run the mpeg the picture is great but I have no sound! I am using the MPEG 2 super video cd VBR selection.
There must be a setting or something I am missing. Please, someone, set me straight. -
tmpgenc plus mpeg2 editing is very buggy, use videoredo, tmpgenc mpeg editor, mpegvcr, cuttermaran instead.

Not that I am cheap, but could you please recommend a free or trial program? I don't want to spend money on a program that won't work or has poor or expensive support.

I'd recommend downloading the Trial of DVD MovieFactory 5.0 from Ulead.com, The Trial is free to use (but it might not support Dolby Digital Audio -- the full version does).
The program can Import from DVD (non copyprotected). It has a builtin encoder (if you needed one. It can Author your DVD's using your source assets "asis" (no re-encoding).
And it even has support for the new HD DVD and Blu-Ray DVD formats.
It's not free -- but it's only $50 for the Full versions

Freeware solution:
Use ProjectX or pvastrumento to demultiplex the vob files to elementray video and audio streams. Then use Mpeg2schnitt or cuttermaran to join/cut your video (audio is cut too)
Use the elementary streams for authoring with gui for dvdauthor or dvdauthorguiGUI for dvdauthor:

I have now been able to convert my project to mpeg 2 and I have been able to edit this mpeg file. Using nero, I have been able to apply the appropriate chapters. So I burn the dvd and now I have issues with the sound not being incinct with the video. Can anyone please tell me how to address this problem so that the picture and the music are alligned?

Nero isn't generally considered to be one of the more reliable authoring tools...

Way to much effort .
Go grab my "remove commercial guide" , it's simple .
https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=291744
From there it's vobedit to strip each title
Besweet to convert the audio
Dvdauthorgui to create the dvd from each m2v and audio (prefer ac3)
The gimp for basic menu's (dvdauthorgui has option to convert jpg to m2v's for menu's)
Pgcedit to edit navigational command's and link button's .
www.simtel.com , windows , cd/dvd emulation , or was that cd/dvd tool's ...
Look for the one with the sheep logo .
Use folder2iso to create iso image from output from dvdauthorgui , after editing with pgcedit
Load iso image in phantom dvd drive , playback in prefered dvd player software .
Have none ... how about koolplayer , it's free ... donation ware .
If you get lost , just grab my music video guide ... it show's how the navigation command's work in pgcedit .

A bonus :
Ghostburn , you will need to search for this , I think I came across it at www.downloads.com .
It can burn iso , bootable iso , and dvd's , though restricted to max of 4.3 gig , has own burn engine
Do I find software ... it's all over the place .
