  1. I am ripping files using dvd shrink and the shrunk files have 9800 KBPS and are only 1.1 GB. When I try to author the files, I get a max bit rate warning. It appears that DVD shrink is not changing the info in the header. I have heard a program called dvd patcher can fix this. But does anybody else have this problem or know of a way to correct it?

Ripping the files does not change anything, they are just being moved from the DVD to the HD. So the problem is being introduced during the encoding process, unless the files are already that way on the original DVD.

Knowing your whole process and the disc in question my shed some light on the problem.

9800kbps is likely to be the max bitrate IMHO.

DVD Spec says you shouldn't go over 10080kbps in combined video, audio & subtitles. If you're under this, there should be nothing to worry about.

What authoring software are you using ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. I think dvd shrink did not update the header. I am using DVD WS, which gives me a warning that the bitrate is too high. Same thing on TmpCenc Author, but DVD WS goes out of sync. The files have to be half that bit rate if dvd shrink did what its supposed to, the files are half the original size.

The max bitrate could still be 9800kbps - just the average bitrate has been halved

I know for a fact that you can ignore the warning in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Don't know about DVD WS.
    If in doubt, Google it.
