  2. What I have been doing, as most people suggest in this forum, is to rip a PAL DVD or VCD, re-encode it to NTSC with TMPGenc, and burn it to a new VCD, which will work with your NTSC DVD player and TV.

Most DVD players seem to be able to handle PAL or NTSC signals. The problem is usually whether or not your TV can. Usually, your TV will scroll a black and white image if it can't handle the PAL signal when a PAL VCD is played.

I'm curious to know if anyone has tried the Emerson EVC-1575 or 1595 video signal converters. Supposedly, they can automatically convert the DVD/VCD/VCR signals to what's compatible with your TV... I want to buy one, but I haven't gotten any reviews on their performance yet... anybody know?

    Thanks...

  3. if the dvd player does it right it will just convert the pal to ntsc and send that to the tv ( either squishing it into 240 lines of cutting off 24 lines off the top and bottom - mine, as do most dvd players, squishes the image)

getting the extra lines at the wrong frequency will confuse even the best tvs
