Copying recorded tv to dvd using WMC

Just got a new media centre pc. It records TV onto the hard disk no problem. Whan I try to copy the programmes onto DVD it only gives me the option of writing to disk as a data file. This works ok and plays on the pc but not in any DVD players. I thought I would have the option of writing it as a vide file which would play on any dvd player.

Is there something wrong with my software?
Can I convert the files in some way using another programme to allow me to copy it and play it on a dvd player?

DVR-MS files? try TSUNAMI MPEG DVD Author PRO. Or videoredo and output as mpg and author in your favorite dvd authoring tool.
