    Hi all,

Is Premiere Pro good only for DV ?

Its project settings doesn't have a setting for regular AVI, just DV....

In case I want to work with HuffYUV AVI, will it be OK ? How should I adjust the project settings ?

    Thanks,

    Zetti

Not sure about PRO, but I've captured and edited HUFFYUV avi files and edited them with ADOBE Premiere 6.5 without any problems.

Premiere Pro is native uncompressed RGB or YUV in varoius bit depth. It can easily handle uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 YUV in software or hardware.

Huffyuv is a way to compress a 4:2:2 YUV stream to a file.

DV format support is an overlay over YUV uncompressed native. It means that DV is only uncompressed when filters or transitions call for it.

    Thanks edDV and Rob,

edDV, DV is 4:1:1 compression, right ?

As AVI HuffYUV is 4:2:2, and Premiere Pro "Project settings" is stucked in "DV format", wouldn't it imply in additional quality loss ?

I mean, the actual video format would be 4:2:2, while the software would treat it all as 4:1:1....

    Thanks again, much apreciated,

If your intention is to work with Huffy codec, then create a custom project setting (not DV of course). This custom project setting is the same as your original footage..Therefore, no re-rendering..Just go through the fields and choose the correct fps, codec, field, audio setting, container, etc....

    Good luck!!!

What is your source? Is this just off air TV?

In your other post you said you were capturing TV to DV format.
