    Hey there,

I in need of some serious help. I just bought a new pc few days ago and i had 2 cdrom drives with me. One is the normal CD-rom and the other is a DVD/CD-RW combo drive. My cd-rom drive had been running terribly slow whenever i transfer files from cd to my desktop or installing setup from a cd using that drive. My DVD/CD-RW drive, however, doesn't seems to have this sort of problem intact. My cd rom drive (Master) is hook up on the secondary IDE channel as well as my dvd combo drive (Slave). My HDD as the primary. I found out that it had to do with the DMA settting.

So i went to "My Computer" -> Device manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controller -> Advanced Tab.
    Here's what i saw :

    Device 0 - PIO MODE

Device 1 - DMA (UIltra DMA Mode 4)

Now i try set the device 0 to DMA also. (Device 0 relate to my cd-drive). DMA ultra mode 4 is detected BUT when i try running a cd, it seems to take ages for the cd to load!! The light on the drive was standing still and rarely blink. So is there actually a way to set to DMA cause it had been detected but only problem is that the cd drive doesn't seems to work well over that setting.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Not enough info to make a determination. How fast/old is the CD-Rom?

I bought four systems in the last week. One of them is a year old but has several year old drives in it. I could say "er . . I bought it yesterday" but that doesn't mean the drive was manufactured the day before yesterday. For useful help you might want to report the drive speed, make, and model.
