    hi all,

I've done a search but can't seem to find anything relevant,

    So,

Does anyone know of the software available that can extract/rip dvd for back-up - running in OS9?
Its for a friend of mine, whos running a lot of other software in this system and can't afford the upgrades needed for OSX.

He's got Toast 5 (woohoo!) but need the bits before that.

    thanks.

    nope.
there is no RIPPING software that can handle the latest
COPYGUARDS that will run in OS 9.

The last avaialble thing we had for OS 9 was Yade,
but when it got ported to OSX and becamse YadeX,
developement in OS 9 stopped dead, IIRC.

    Hi

You can use DVDBackup for older dvd's that are not coverd by the newly protected encryption. Do a google search for it. Dvdbackup is still my favorite tool for older dvd's. Simplistic use for simplistic people like me.

    just a note:

But in doing so, you can forget anything released
    by SONY/UNIVERSAL, COLUMBIA/TRISTAR, and
DISNEY/Touchstone, which accounts for 60% of your DVD Market.

And with Ripguard spreading to Warner Bros/Newline/HBO,
DVDBackup will be in the same boat as Yade was.

Best to keep an eye on what studio releases what, as
you'll end up hunting and pecking on your DVD purchases
to know what you can and cannot backup this way....

or just wait until you "friend"' can afford to join everybody else on OS X.

If your friend is willing to give up ten new DVD purchases, s/he can get a copy of Tiger with that cash.

  7. If they really want to rip in OS 9, the best tool was DVDExtractor. Don't know how it will work anymore, but you can always try.
